A Novel Protein for Sensitive Dogs

Kangaroo is less commonly used in dog food than chicken or beef, so it may suit dogs with sensitivities to more commonly fed proteins.

Lean & Nutrient Rich

Kangaroo is naturally lean and rich in iron, zinc and B vitamins. It suits dogs on a lower-fat diet, dogs carrying a bit more weight than their vet would like, and senior dogs who aren't burning through energy the way they once did.

Australian, start to finish

Bowlsome's kangaroo is Australian and so is the cooking. For a lot of our customers, that matters on its own.

Food fussy dogs come back to

Kangaroo has a rich, meaty flavour that tends to go down well with picky eaters. If mealtimes at your place involve a lot of negotiating, it's worth a go.

Single-protein feeding, made simpler

Every Bowlsome recipe uses single meat protein. In this range, that protein is kangaroo.

This matters if your dog has food sensitivities. When a meal contains a single main protein, you know exactly what your dog is eating. That makes it far easier to work out what agrees with them and what doesn't. It's also why single-protein food is often used as part of an elimination diet when a vet has directed one.

If your dog is being investigated for a food sensitivity, talk to your vet about where kangaroo fits in.

Switching your dog to kangaroo

Take it slowly. Most dogs do best with a gradual changeover across seven to ten days. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, stretch it out further. There's no prize for rushing.

Days 1-3

About a quarter kangaroo, three quarters their current food.

Days 4-6

Half and half.

Days 7-9

Three quarters kangaroo.

Day 10

Fully switched.

Common questions

What dog parents ask us most about kangaroo.

Is kangaroo good for dogs?

Kangaroo is a lean red meat and a complete protein source. It's naturally rich in iron, which supports healthy red blood cells and oxygen transport, zinc, which helps support immune function, skin health and a healthy coat, and B vitamins, including B12, important for energy metabolism and nervous system function. In Bowlsome's Kangaroo Bowl it's combined with fruit, vegetables and ancient grains into a complete and balanced meal, so it provides everything your dog needs in one bowl.

Is kangaroo a good option for dogs with food sensitivities?

It can be. Kangaroo is a novel protein for most dogs, and every Bowlsome recipe uses one main meat protein, which makes it easier to identify what your dog does and doesn't tolerate. If your dog has a diagnosed food allergy, work through it with your vet.

Is the Kangaroo Bowl hypoallergenic?

Yes, Kangaroo Bowl is hypoallergenic. Beef, chicken, wheat, soy and dairy are the most common allergens for dogs, and kangaroo isn't one of them, so it's a good option if your dog reacts to more commonly fed proteins.

Is Bowlsome kangaroo food raw?

No. Kangaroo Bowls are slow-cooked. Kangaroo BOBs are cooked before they're freeze-dried.

Does it need to go in the fridge?

Not before opening. That's the point of it. Store pouches in the pantry. After opening, refrigerate and use within three days.

Can I feed Bobs as a full meal?

Yes. Rehydrate them at a 1:3 ratio by weight and serve as meatballs. They also work as a topper or a training treat.

Is the kangaroo Australian?

Yes. Our kangaroo is sourced in Australia. Bowlsome is also an Australian family-owned business, and everything is made here too.
